Sorry if I'm prying into official organizing business, but I'm wondering if we can get some more info. And as a judge i would like to stay in the loop.
Do we have sponsors? From what i know vagabond is one (is this right?) and i herd around the rumor mill that there is another much larger sponsor in the works. I wont say the name, because I'm not sure if its true, but those in charge will know who I'm talking about. Is this true and if so, is it a "we have asked them to sponsor us" or "we are negotiating to sponsor us" situation.
How far are we from having stuff ready for people to sign up for etc..
Being a convention veteran (i know we are not organizing a convention, but the same principles apply just on a smaller scale) one of the things that makes cons stand out from others is how organized they are, how soon they have all info available to attendees etc.
Basically as soon as we have the following the better:
The date and times. We have the date, but times, like what time it starts, What time judging will occur, what is the expected finishing time... and so on.
Rules, a good list of rules will make for a nice fun event. ie, what can be cosplayed (japanese anime, manga and games) and what cannot be cosplayed (western TV shows, animations, games)
what categories there are (best male, best female, best overall, best tech, best skit, etc..)
You get the idea... Also, if we have all these things worked out and we appear nice and professional with it all, we will be more likley to gain sponsorship.
I would suggest contacting the following about it (AFTER we have above things set out):
JB hi-fi (remember they sponsor Supanova, so they arent new to the cosplay scene, thus less scared of us strange people ;D)
The Currier (they might like to run a story on the winner, or better yet a story before the comp, about cosplaying, Just don't mention me... because last time i talked to them i kind of swore a lot at the vice editor...)
Oh, and a scoring system for the judges to work by.
for example:
0-20 points based on craftsmanship and faithfulness to character.
0-20 points on skit based on performance, creativity and entertainment value.
0-10 points based how how faithful the portrayal of your character is to the original work.
That is the scoring system used for the madman national comp, obviously something very different should be used for our smaller comp, but you get the idea.
Rose, if you want i could start working on drafts of a scoring system and rules/guidelines for cosplayers and i can Email to you or give it to you at next weekends meeting.
/end rant
