Here's some tips for anyone starting a cosplay for this, or any other competition: 1. Purchased cosplays generally don't win against a hand made costume of the same caliber. That does not mean you have to make everything, not having made accessories like a naruto head band or a ring the character wears is fine. 2. When your making your costume you can tell how much effort has gone into it. So put the extra effort in, spend the extra $20 to get the nicer fabric, it shows in the end. 3. Props do wonders for a cosplay. If your character has a gun or sword make it! Even if you don't use it in your skit, if the judges know you put the effort into the characters signature gun or throwing knife, it will win you points. 4. Artistic license is good. The characters we cosplay are animated (well, most of them are). So a lot of their costume it open to artistic interpretation. So just because some other people made the costume one way, doesn't mean you have to do it the same way. 5. Its all in the details. If your character has something inscribed on the bottom of their shoes, put it on the bottom of your shoe!! Skits: Short and sweet is better. There's nothing worse than a skit that gets boring. Just because there's a max time limit for skits does NOT mean you have to use all that time. My skit for the madman national comp is 20 seconds. Since this is the first cosplay comp ill be judging i asked a friend of mine for some advice. He's been a judge for the WCS, the madman national comp and heaps of other competitions. The first piece of advice he gave me was: Be an *profanity*, find every little mistake. So watch out. ;D (It's okay, ill be nice, but ill still be looking for every little mistake in your cosplays

be nice cos i know i'm not perfect, also on the note of brought cosplays, i have seen some awful ones and some fantastic ones. and just a tip cosplay characters ur comfortable as, it makes the costume sit better on u as a cosplayer. for example if any one has seen kyo kara moah i cosplayed gunter von chrest hes well lets say "as gay as gay can be" so i had fun running around as him and being a space cadet, the character sat well with my personalty as well, completly nuts. it also shows if ur comfortable in what ur wearing and last just relax

True, there are some fantastic purchased cosplays out there. We need to work out some kind of scoring system, ill ask my friend Zerebin (the judge i was talking about) what is normally the layout used in comps. I would imagine its somthing like: Costume- out of 10 performance- out of 5 or 10 how fathful they are to the character- out of 5 or 10. Thoughts?
