Just a few days ago, I picked up a bunch of Akira Kurosawa films on VHS at a local op-shop. $10 overall. They were:
Rashomon (1950) Seven Samurai (1954) Throne of Blood (1957) Yojimbo (1961) Sanjuro (1962) Red Beard (1965)
So far, I've managed my way through Seven Samurai and Sanjuro. Great pieces of film, they are. And Toshiro Milfune is such a badass!
The Ringu film series (including Rasen) is worth a chance, and blows the American remakes out of the water, imo (the first one was rather worthy; the second - not so much).
I've still got to get myself into Oldboy, Ichi the Killer, Battle Royale, Azumi, Wolf and Cub, Takeshi Miike-related, etc. sometime soon.

Would it be weird if I bought a J-Movie that was ultraviolent and involved a girl who wore schoolgirl clothing and was actually some kind of machine, like a sexy terminator? I saw one for a reasonable price at the Elisabeth St DVD shop, but I neglected to buy for that matter and I forgot the name of it.

From what I've heard it is an "ultra-violent cartoon-like gore/revenge flick that can't be taken too seriously". Sounds fun, haha. Definitely saw it in Elizabeth St JB Hi-Fi. But I think I saw it around in the Ballarat store. (not sure; dunno...)

I think I just saw a Japanese shock gore film which threw all logic out the window. Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl is what it's called. It's just been released locally around here. I've seen films like Tokyo Gore Police and The Machine Girl but those were NORMAL compared to the likes of this film. You can't sit through the first five minutes without either crying in fear or laughing out of the ridiculous yet insane amount of violence and gore. It's stupidly funny. Honestly if the opportunity arises...WATCH THIS MOVIE.

Anyone seen Thirst (Park Chanwook 2009) with Song Kang-Ho? It is amazing. Song Kang-Ho continues to show us that he is Korea's top actor. He can play anything. Probably one of the best asian actors period. Park Chanwook (director of OLD BOY) is improving with his visuals and storytelling. This film is a character study of a priest turned vampire who must fight his urge to kill and commit...sexually I mean. There is really no plot but does have a few shocking turn of events that keep you glued to the screen and you really feel for Song's character coz most can relate to breaking the rules and facing horrific consequences. This has got to be one of the best vampire movies ever made. Keep in mind this movie is very gory with lots of blood I might add and a sex scene that is quite steamy but shot so well that it actually helps develop the protagonist. Those crazy Koreans know how make great films. 10/10.
Another Park Chanwook film you should all look at is JSA: Joint Security Area. Also stars Song-Kang-Ho and Lee Byung-hun (the guy who played Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe). Asian cinema at its finest.

The first short films 50 feet long (approximately 15 meters or 1.5 minutes of demonstration) were mostly documentary, however, the comedy dramatization of the Lumiere brothers, the Watered Waterer, reflected trends in the origin of feature films
