Wal wouldn't mind as long as i explain its for a costume. And besides, he gives me free run of the place, I do it all myself.

Well, time for an update on Kenshin... Both good and bad news... The good news is my Hakama pattern and Rigid Collodion (The make-up appliance I'm using for the scars for Kenshin and Squall) arrived in the mail today. So I'll be heading into town tomorow to get some nice white material to make my hakama with and other material to wrap up my reverse blade sword's hilt with when I finish making that.
Bad news, well more like super FRUSTRATING news is sewing Kenshin's kimono tonight, while sewing that strip of fabric for the collar type thing, sewed it it the wrong way on so now I have to unpick the entire thread by hand....and that length of thread it double my height....I'm gonna be up late tonight....

My mum has some trick she does when unpicking stuff, it takes her no time at all... although I'm afraid i don't know how she does it ;D Oh, and i assume you have a quick unpick? If not, buy one!

If by that you mean one of those little stitch ripper things then yeah I have a couple, a small one and a big one.

if it was sewn with a sewing machine just using a strait stitch you take out the bottom thread then the top thread just pulls straight off

...You couldn't have told me this last night after spending too hours pulling up every iindividual stitch? Oh well....
Bought all my wood and paint and stuff to make my sword today as well as my hakama and juban material plus some blue ribbon for my wig and other bits and pieces for wrapping my sword hilt and scabbard with. I'm also making my own zori since I cant find any online accurate enough. At the rate I'm going everything will be 100% made by me except for the wig and contacts...
Hmm question. Does anyone know where in or around town I can find somewhere that sells sheets of solid plastic, strong but a bit flexible? I need some for the hard bit at the back of my hakama and also I'm thinking of making the shoulder piece for Squall using something like that. I'm thinking of checking out Clark Rubber but just asking here first in case I go off on a wild goose chase...

How thick do you want it? My first suggestion would be styrene, i have some sheets around the place, i order a fair few of them at a time, I'm sure i have some spare lying around. For Squall's shoulder piece, is it supposed to be a bit of armour, or does it look like heavily padded cloth? If its cloth, just get some very heavy interfacing (we have some really heavy stuff left over if you want some)

Well the hakama needs a stiff piece of something in the back of it. Squall's shoulder pience is like heavily padded cloth but I want it to be pretty hard and not move around or be floppy so that's why i was thinking about hard plastic.

Battosai: I used plastic from plastic file folders to make armor in my samurai warriors cosplay. That should probably work for the backing of the hakama.
Update on TF2 Sniper: Modifying a black polar fleece vest by hand, so far so good, no unpicking, but I'm used to handsewing already and make two metres of progress every hour. Am very excited about recent update and will start collecting jars.

That's a good idea My wig arrived for Kenshin today. Looks great though wierd at the same time having long red hair... With a bit of styling it should be perfect Also finished my Kimono today but I may need to shorten the sleeves a bit. I'll get around to taking a few progress pics if anyone is interested.. Can't wait to see how your TF2 cosplay turns out greenzaku. So how are everyone elses costumes coming along?
