I've noticed that about the library too. From that I see it, they treat more as a place of hanging out rather than a place for busy work. That's why I personally wait until the dead of night to do my work in my own room. Sure it can't be good for me, but at least my family is dead asleep, the TV's are off, my baby sister isn't crying, my young sister isn't singing Hannah Montana (curses to the Disney Channel!) from the top of her lungs.
I guess what I am saying is perhaps there is another place or another time where you can do your work without such disruption. But hey, that's my advice and my kind of advice isn't entirely for everyone.

I kind of don't have a choice: We only have one car, so I drop my mum off at work at 8am, then come to uni to work, because most if my lectures don't start til at least 10:30am - that, and I live out of town, so driving home for a couple of hours really isn't worth it... oh well.. As for the Disney Channel thing: god they have some irritating tv shows *shudders*

I would like to add to your library rant Celeste. It seems that there is nowhere nowadays to work productive. You go to the library, people gasbag, you go to the place where you generally work, people gasbag, you go to the canteen, people gasbag, getting stuff done nowadays now feels like a joke now. I swear, I just want to invest in a USB internet key and do work in my car in my car park.

I know - it sucks doesn't it? It's a university people! You're supposed to be able to get work done there! I'm probably going to end up taking my laptop and sitting in an empty corridor somewhere that has a powerpoint...

Perhaps a little update which backs up our claims further. As I was working on my IT studies as I listened to Dethklok (with EARPHONES might I add), I've had to put up with a group of girls (not from this department might I add), who tell me to turn on Britney Spears (yeah right) or turn my music down. Seriously, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE and WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE TELLING ME WHAT TO DO IN A PLACE WHERE I GENERALLY STUDY? So ignoring them, I carrying on my work while listening to Dethklok avoiding stress. Being the most mature acting women that they are, they revert to childish sign making. Seriously. What the hell? Are you really trying to piss me off more than what I have since when you came down? Gasbagging and annoying the crap out of me all the while? While I did tolerate you people being here for 'study', I'd say you'd have to respect my way of studying. As far as I know as well there were hundreds other listening to their music WITHOUT earphones and they didn't have a problem. So you know what, *profanity* them fascist hypocrites. I have no time to deal with douche bags like yourselves. Apologies for the poor grammar but I am really pissed right now. It may seem like nothing as you read, but if your me and you've been through the same crap I've been, then you would sympathize.
Peace.
UPDATE: Now those *profanity*s are throwing Maltesars at me from the 2nd floor of the building. They think they're so smart even though i can see them bobbing their head up and down and giggling like retarded children. The things morons do these days...

You need to eat Thomas - or you won't concentrate on study! As for your dillema borgie: if that were me, or if I happened to be there too, I would have proceeded to confront them, tell them what I thought, and if they(and most likely would have) started saying stupid crap, I would just proceed to throw a chair at them or something. Seriously, I would do that. My patience with stupid people is ever deminishing at Uni these days. I can't believe they were throwing malteasers at you - how FREAKIN CHILDISH can they be? IT'S UNIVERSITY, NOT KINDERGARTEN! Grow UP! But generally, I find I seem to exude a rather intimidating aura (or something like that), because when people have started crap like that, it takes one death glare from me and they proceed to back away... I don't know if that's a good thing though - I seem to scare away guys too... hehe, shadow minister indeed - they never see me coming......

As much as I would love to throw the fear of god into them once again, I am a bigger man than that so I don't need to do such a thing against a group so petty. By the way, nobody knows a death stare until they seen the likes of mine.

hmmm, there's nothing like a killer death glare! I do agree though - usually I'm above such petty things as to start an argument with such idiots, but sometimes my desire to want to kick the living crap outta people cannot be harnessed - eg. that immature moron in the SMB library some time ago - he'll harass one too many random people and end up with a broken face... Just a general observation, but I notice a lot of old people just seem to think they can cut lines and push past alot. One old man in the supermarket last week: rather than ask me to move out of the way, he just hit me with his trolly: I thought it must have been an accident, so I moved, then he hit me again - glaring. Really, is it that difficult to just ASK me to move? Sigh.....
